Transportation Procedures:
As the school of origin, the School District of Flambeau provides transportation to children in out of home placement. Transportation will be provided in a cost-effective manner in accordance with the Social Security Act. Section 675(4)(a) of the Social Security Act defines “foster care maintenance payments” to include payments to cover reasonable travel for a foster care child to remain in the school in which the child is enrolled at the time of placement. Only children in foster care who meet specific requirements set forth in section 472 of the Social Security Act are eligible to receive foster care maintenance payments.
If there are additional costs incurred in providing transportation to maintain children in foster care in their school of origin, the district will provide transportation to the school of origin if the local child welfare agency agrees to reimburse the district for the cost of such transportation or the district agrees to pay for the cost of such transportation, or the district and the local child welfare agency agree to share the cost of the transportation.
