Hello,
I am John Kopacz, Flambeau School Counselor for grades 4YK-5. I received a two-year Associate Degree in Agriculture from UW-River Falls in 1982, and dairy farmed 16 years. I then went back to get a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary/Middle School Education from Mount Senario College (1998), and my Master's in School Counseling from UW-Stout (2011). I have been in since 1998. I have taught fifth grade, alternative education (9-12), and was School-to-Work and Charter Schools coordinator before becoming Flambeau's 4YK-5 School Counselor in 2012. I have enjoyed each position I was in along the way, and especially enjoy working with our elementary students to help them learn and grow. I provide students with weekly classroom guidance lessons, and I work with students both individually and/or in small groups as they needed. Some of the areas of focus include:
- helping to enhance social skills, friendship skills, and cooperation
- problem-solving skills, coping strategies
- anger management skills, conflict resolution
- behaviors and attitudes and how they affect relationships with others
- empathy, respect, responsibility, integrity, perseverance, tolerance, and accountability
- understanding of self, including strengths and weaknesses
- individual, family, and school crisis intervention
- other topics as determined to be necessary
As a school counselor, I do not provide professional counseling services. However, I can assist you with referrals to outside agencies when necessary.
Please feel free to contact me by phone or email with any comments, questions or concerns you might have.
